Volunteers

Through our dedicated team of volunteer welcomers, we greet over 200,000 visitors to the Kirk every year. From April to October.  The Kirk, The Story of Greyfriars Museum and shop are open Monday to Friday 10.30 - 16.30 and Saturday 11.00 - 14.00. Over the past few years the number of visitors has greatly increased, coming from every corner of the globe to the place where the National Covenant was signed in 1638, and where Greyfriars Bobby kept vigil at his master's grave for 14 years.

Our current welcomers find meeting visitors both enjoyable and satisfying, and as so many important events have taken place at Greyfriars over the centuries, there is something to interest every visitor. In order to continue to provide a welcome to tourists, we are always looking to recruit more welcomers.

Volunteers need not have experience as training will be offered. If you can spare at least three hours per week, please contact us. An outline of the role of Welcomers is available here .

We also have a vacancy for a Volunteer Co-ordinator to assist with the development of our visitor strategy. This is a voluntary role that would provide excellent work experience for someone who is keen to work in the charity, voluntary or tourism sector. For a job description, click here
