The Services

Sunday worship

Our main services are at 11.00am in English and at 12.30pm in Gaelic, every Sunday of the year. In addition, on the first Sunday of each month at 9.30am there is a service of Holy Communion. There are occasional evening services and special services during Holy Week and Easter, at Christmas and at other times. Everyone is welcome at all services in Greyfriars, whether they are members of a church or not, believers or not.  Please see calendar for details.

Services are conducted by the Minister, Rev Richard E Frazer.

Midweek worship

The Midweek service takes place each Thursday at 13.10. The service lasts for 20 minutes and is an informal opportunity for prayer and reflection. If you would like to make a request for prayers to be said during this service you can email your thoughts in confidence to the Minister:

Special services

With its beautiful and atmospheric interior, the Kirk is a popular venue for special services such as weddings, blessings, funerals and commemorations. For information about hiring the Kirk for a special service, contact the Operations Manager on 0131 225 1900 or email

One Sunday evening each month, Nitekirk provides a creative drop-in experience of church. Everyone is welcome to enjoy this open space for stillness, prayer and reflection. You might call it an open house - a place of welcome and refreshment. The church will be lit with candles, the atmosphere contemplative. There will be a time of reflection, gentle music and, throughout the sanctuary, places of activity - pictures to consider, Scripture, prayers and poems to read, something to feel with your hands, art supplies to focus your creativity. People come and go as they like, joining in songs and quiet conversation or sitting in silence and enjoying the space.

NiteKirk takes place from 5-8pm on the first Sunday of the month. Come and go any time - all welcome.

Refugio is a monthly evening Eucharist set in the context of silence, symbol and reflective prayer. It takes its name from the shelters where pilgrims, walking the medieval route to Santiago de Compostela, stop and find rest on their journey. Refugio is a stopping place for today's pilgrims, away from the bustle of everyday life, away from many words and much doing, to a quieter, more reflective space, in which we can be nourished by bread and wine.
