Greyfriars Kirk & St Cuthbert’s Union

In April 2023, the Presbytery of Edinburgh and West Lothian agreed a mission plan involving the union of various congregations across Edinburgh and West Lothian. Under this plan Greyfriars Kirk has been placed in a parish grouping with The Parish Church of St Cuthbert with the aim of working toward full union in 2025. A working group with representatives of both congregations has been formed to think through the various tasks required for union, and to create ways for our congregations to come together for worship and mission that serves the combined parish and wider community.

Every month, we hold Joint Communion with the St Cuthbert’s congregation. You can find the details of services held at St Cuthbert’s on their website.

Parish Grouping Document

The joint working group of the two churches agreed the wording of a parish grouping document, which has been submitted to Presbytery for review. It provides a summary of some of the formal aspects of the two churches, and the areas that the two churches will start to think about how to co-ordinate, where appropriate, as we look forward to union.
