Arts and Events
Greyfriars Kirk hosts a wide variety of arts and non-religious events. Choral works with orchestras, operas, jazz festivals, organ recitals, art exhibitions, conferences, lectures and drama productions have all been performed at Greyfriars. With its large open expanse and wooden floor, the Kirk is also a favourite ceilidh and dance location. It is also used for TV and radio broadcasts and CD recordings.
The Kirk is renowned for hosting a series of concerts for the Edinburgh International Festival as well as the Fringe Festival. In addition we feature regular concerts with Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Scottish Ensemble, National Youth Orchestra of Scotland, The Sixteen, Capella Nova, Edinburgh Royal Choral Union, Meadows Chamber Orchestra, Edinburgh Symphony Orchestra, Edinburgh University Music Society, Jubilo Choir, Cadenza Choir and many others. Schools are also regular users of the Kirk's facilities.
The Kirk is often used in conjunction with charitable fundraising events such as concerts and ceilidhs. Private receptions after concerts can be incorporated with a public event.
We are able to offer hospitality at the the Kirk. It can be used for entertaining including dining, receptions and informal socials combined with tours of the Kirk and Kirkyard.
The consumption of of alcohol is permitted for private functions and a licence can be obtained for public events.
